Investment Initiative Strengthens Rwanda’s Agricultural Innovation and Farmer Productivity
A new international investment initiative is strengthening Rwanda’s agricultural sector by supporting scientific farming methods and improving productivity among small-scale farmers.
The United Nations’ International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has launched a partnership to develop Rwanda’s macadamia nut industry. The project supports farmers with resources, research support, and improved production systems to increase crop yields and incomes.
The initiative focuses on improving the macadamia value chain, helping farmers produce higher volumes and access better market prices. Experts say the project could increase annual earnings for farmers and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
Agriculture remains a key sector in Rwanda, employing most of the population and contributing significantly to the country’s economy. Scientists and development partners believe innovation in crop production will strengthen food security and rural development.
The initiative highlights Rwanda’s commitment to modern agricultural science and demonstrates how global partnerships are supporting sustainable farming and economic growth.
