Major Jean Claude Habineza's Case Over Alleged Embezzlement of RWF 485 Million Postponed
The trial of Major Jean Claude Habineza and civilian Bavakure Ndekwe Felix was scheduled to be heard on September 16, 2025, at the Military Court located in Nyamirambo, Nyarugenge District.
However, the hearing did not take place because Major Habineza requested to pursue an amicable settlement with the people who accuse him of taking more than RWF 485 million, in an effort to find a way to repay them voluntarily through a pre-bargaining process.
According to information obtained by Ukweli Times, after meeting the complainants at the Murindi Military Prison, Major Habineza said he wished to be granted provisional release (bail) so that he could seek funds to compensate them.
However, the Military Prosecution opposed his request, insisting that he should use any other available means to repay the alleged victims without being released.
Major Habineza argued that remaining in detention prevented him from following up on assets he had ordered from outside Rwanda, including vehicles. As a result, the court postponed the case to September 22, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
The meeting between Major Habineza and the complainants was also attended by representatives of Zigama CSS, the military bank where the alleged offenses are said to have occurred, as part of efforts to explore possible compensation for the victims.
