Skirts become men's fashionable outfits

International fashion magazines such as Vogue and others in 2022 have created stories showing the clothes that will be fashionable in 2023, including skirts for men. This was seen in fashion events that have been held for several days, such as Milan Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week, where international fashion houses such as Gucci, Etro, Martine Rose, and others have unveiled new men's clothing, including skirts.

Apart from those events, some famous men have been wearing skirts and shirts for days. Even if it seems unusual for Rwandan males to wear skirts, some men have already realized that these are the right outfits for them.

In July 2022, when the famous movie "Bullet Train" was shown in the cinema, Brad Pitt attended the event wearing a skirt, which became the story for various media. Except for recent years, in 1998, the famous football player, David Beckham, was photographed wearing a skirt.

Not only do these men wear skirts and dresses, but at different times celebrities including Lil Nas X, Kanye West, Russell Westbrook, Alessandro Michele, Billy Porter, Pete Davidson, Lewis Hamilton, Van Noten, and others have been seen singing in skirts or dresses. This is usually during the Meet Gala or Fashion Week.

 Although this clothing is becoming very popular in current years,  In different countries of the world, this is the clothing that local men wear, such as in Scotland, Burma, Madagascar, Greece, and elsewhere.

You often find that in some African countries, men wear clothes that look like either skirts or dresses as their traditional clothing. In Rwanda, men wear kilts, which are made in the same way as skirts.

Although men wearing skirts seems unusual and a trend in current years, especially in 2019, it is not a new thing because it has been worn for a long time. Going back to when men in Egypt wore skirts, the Greeks and Romans also had what was called "togas" and "chiton," which were skirt-like clothes worn by men to show their dignity.

This is the case in Japan and Korea, where men wear kimonos that are made of robes. It was in these parts that they wore it until the 14th century in Europe when tailors started creating modern clothes and factories began to produce them in large quantities.

In 2010, fashion designer Thom Browne started to include men's skirts in his creative clothing, but it did not immediately become popular because many thought that such clothing should be worn regardless of gender. Since 2019, it has been worn again, although it is not yet very popular. Different men wear it.

In Rwanda, although this dress is not worn by many men, some do, including most models. Today's clothing designers have prioritized creating clothes for everybody regardless of their gender, known as "unisex" clothing. A fashion house from Rwanda known as Motions has also created a men's skirt called Shana Dress, which was released in "India."
