The Mane Music Label between a rock and hard places
It's been few days since the trend stories about the resignation of some members of The Mane Music Label got published in several newspapers. Yvonne Mugemana, known as Queen Cha, one of the artists signed in this label, and Aristide Gahunzire, the advisor, resigned from this label.
The Mane Music Label is between rock and hard places.
Currently, The Mane Music Label consists of two official artists, Calvin Mbanda and Marina Deborah, after the resignation of other members. After departing from the Urban Boys group and starting a solo career, Safi Madiba was the first to leave the label in 2018, while Jay Polly left in 2019.
Apart from Queen Cha's resignation, that seemed not to surprise the CEO of the label, Badrama, as they announced it was agreed between them. The other concessions came as an inconvenience-based between both sides.
For instance, there was a misunderstanding between both sides when Jay Polly resigned. Jay said that he didn't get what he was promised and agreed in their contract.
People started doubting this label after announcing the concert in which artists in this label weren't on the performing list. The performance would occur in the USA, where the CEO is currently living. How comes a brand can prepare a concert without any of its artists? People doubted.
The Mane Music Label has been in the game for five years and is still grinding through the resignations of some members. It is one of the labels that made a difference in Rwandan music ever since it emerged based on their achievements. No doubt that it took artists from zero to hero level. People started putting them on the pedestal in Rwandan music development.
It's no brainer that they contributed to Rwandan music because they are one of the labels that made it to the performance outside the country. Their artists performed in Belgium, and Marina shot two of her songs there.
They managed to prepare talent detection to look for new talented artists to support; that's why we happened to know Calvin Mbanda; that's the outcome of The Mane talent detection, by the way.
But things no longer at ease now, no new deals after the resignations announced so far. Is The Mane Music Label ceasing like other labels that never make it to the agreements too?
Marina's contract is said to be 10years; maybe that may make sense that it is still there for the long run in the music.
