SNV Rwanda funded an exhibition project "Umutakwasuku"
SNV Netherlands Development Organization sponsored an exclusive Visual Story Telling Exhibition on The Human Impact of sanitation in Rwanda.
SNV Rwanda sponsored the "Umutakwasuku", the project that changed the lives of people through hygiene and sanitation. It is the on going project called “Umutakwasuku” that was launched and showcased the portraits of citizens with their testimonies. It aims at sensitizing people to have clean toilets.
They get the insights
Umutakwasuku is an exhibition which is in the form of images and portraits. Those pictures were taken in different parts of the country. Families were taught and helped to have clean toilets to avoid health complications that can be the result of dirtiness.
Some say the good deed of having a clean toilet and others confess the result of using that dirtiness in terms of business.
The Umutakwasuku exhibition occurred at Kigali Public Library from 29 October to 7th November 2021. On 29th October 2021, many partners in sanitation sector were present.
Bernie F. Chaves, SNV Rwanda Country Director says that everyone must have clean toilets and teach those who are not aware of it to be familiar with the clean toilet in their families.

“We worked in different projects like sanitation, water, and hygiene since 1980. We helped rural families to change their point of view when it comes to cleaning the toilet. These photos and testimonies prove the life changing situation and courageous. We hope changes in the future. We emphasize sanitation as our life is based on it”. He said.

Photographer Murinzi Eric explains more about the Umutakwasuku exhibition
Photographer Murinzi Eric, was funded by SNV Rwanda to depict the real life of people with cleaning toilets. He portrayed those photos in a professional and emotional way. He said that it is vital to depict stories of citizens and how their life changed.
Currently, around two billion people do not have access to clean water. More than 3.6 billion are not able to get access to sanitation.It said that every day approximately 2195 children die of diarrhea. More than 95,000 people die of cholera every day. Above three million get cholera yearly. WHO has the target to reduce the rate of cholera-related death to 90% in 2030.
