The Rwanda private media has a long way from informing to advocacy.

Generally known that Journalism is the activity of gathering, assessing, creating, and presenting news and information. This means that the information public consumes should be accurate and complete information with a reliable source. When the information or news is well presented by the media through its balance and source, it makes advocacy of citizens to their policymakers and also educates them. this makes them walk in a political rhythm.

In Rwanda, the number of media outlets both electronic and print has increased since the liberalization of the media industry in 2002. according to RMC, Now there are 34 radio stations and 14 Tv stations, 46 news, papers, and 88 websites.

In 18years after media liberation also there were born journalists associations that help journalists in their daily life careers. Rwanda journalism is well structured.
But why when we get up in the morning and go to the news sites, do you meet the same headline story to different media outlets, mostly websites with one reference media source? In most news interviews, why always “he/she said” instead of, “we asked”?

First and foremost, lack of professionalism causes journalists not to go out to cover and report what citizens think, but are driven by events such as workshops, meetings, conferences, and what public officials decide to say rather than what they are made to say.  According to a survey by PAX PRESS, 2017 “ sources are still bent on leaders than other categories of informants like citizens”.
Also, some media owners are doing journalism as business that will make money without any knowledge about it, this push journalist to seek contents that will make money like adverts and commentaries than influencing the policymaking and stand for citizens. when this fails, it results in the closure of media houses.
Lack of enough specialized reporters of Rwanda media houses especially websites is the cause of quoting or report what has been said without doing advocacy of their bosses (citizens). Because journalists can’t report or ask for citizens to the subject she/h does not understand. This point does not emphasize that there is no one. There are few according to the media outlets registered.
Overall, let not take media houses as the only suspect of this matters and then citizens as the victim, because citizens are supposed to strength ability of Rwanda private media houses but no single penny from consumers. according to Rwanda media barometer, 2016 survey This result Rwanda media outlets face financial and economic challenges
This leads them in quoting other media which can reach the source of the story or to present what has been commanded by sponsors.
